Next Steps - career info evening.
Years 11 - 13 students attended a careers evening with speakers from various organisations
On Monday 2nd December, parents/students from Years 11 – 13 attended the “Next Steps” Careers Information Evening. The event was designed to provide valuable insights in the various pathways available after secondary school. There were speakers from Oaklands College, Herts University, ASK Apprenticeships, Sixth Forth and Unifrog followed by an interactive session with each speaker as well as a CV Clinic providing advice and guidance.
One parent stated: "My son is in year 13 and like a lot of young people his age, he hasn't settled on exactly what he'd like to do next. As a parent that can leave you feeling a bit anxious. So it was really enlightening to come and listen to what options there are out there, be it university, apprenticeships, college or entering the world of full time work. You need to make decisions with your eyes open, so we were grateful for the explanations, including the pros and cons of each options and the link to unifrog for students and parents. I think a nice balance was struck by the presenters between being passionate about thier favoured option but without forcing it. A highlight was the cv writing stand and reviewing a template with suggestions of what employers want. Another great idea is having a student who is currently doing an apprenticeship share their experience and take questions too."
