05 Jul 2025What is the Day of Ashura? Ashura, observed on the 10th day of Muharram (the first month of the Islamic calendar), holds deep significance for Muslims worldwide. For many, it's a day of reflection, mourning, and remembrance. For Shia Muslims: Ashura marks the martyrdom of Imam Hussain, the grandson of Prophet Muhammad, at the Battle of Karbala in 680 AD. It symbolizes the fight against injustice and tyranny. For Sunni Muslims: It's a day of fasting and gratitude, commemorating the day Moses and the Israelites were saved from Pharaoh by the parting of the Red Sea. Across traditions, Ashura encourages spiritual renewal, justice, and compassion. Ashura encourages believers to reflect on themes of sacrifice, justice, and faith. It is a day to remember the importance of standing up for what is right, showing compassion, and renewing spiritual commitment. #endeavour #courage #kindness #compassion #dignity #ashura2025Read More »Instagram

27 Jun 2025What an incredible achievement for Oliver Tarvet, a former student at The Marlborough Science Academy. Qualifying for the main draw at Wimbledon is no small feat, especially for someone currently ranked world No. 719. At just 21 years old, Oliver has made history as the first British man since 2017 to come through the qualifying rounds and earn a place in the prestigious tournament's main draw. Growing up in St Albans, he began developing his tennis at Batchwood Tennis Academy while studying at Marlborough, before continuing his journey in the United States with collegiate tennis at the University of San Diego. There, he has excelledearning All-American honors and securing a place among the top 10 players in the US college rankings. In the Wimbledon qualifiers, Oliver showcased his grit and talent by defeating three higher-ranked opponents: Térence Atmane of France (world No. 126), Canada's Alexis Galarneau (No. 210), and Belgium's Alexander Blockx (No. 144) the latter in his first-ever best-of-five-sets match. This is only the beginning of what looks set to be an incredible sporting career. The entire Marlborough community is immensely proud and we'll be cheering him on every step of the way.Read More »
