Next steps

Equipping your child with a suitable Chromebook

All students are required to have their own ASUS Chromebook. The device comes with a 5 year warranty, 5 years of accidental damage cover (5 claims in 5 years) plus the extended battery warranty to 5 years. You also have 1 year of theft cover (or across your preferred contribution term if this is longer than 12 months), future proofing the device for manufacturing faults, battery failures and accidents.

The Genie Portal is where you sign up for the scheme, allowing you to setup your direct debits & how long you want to pay for these, for up to 3 years.

Orders need to be placed by the 30th June, for us to place order for giving out in September when your child starts.

Once the chromebooks are received they are tested and configured, put a case with the box, with your child’s name on the box and an asset tag. Both the serial number and asset tags are recorded against your child’s name for easy tracking on the shared spreadsheet.

The supplier of the Chromebooks is Albion Computers, Jo Dowd the Account Manager for the school will be your point of contact should you have any issues with the device, all claims for theft go through the Genie Portal, and for accidental damage or warranty faults you can go via the ASUS website.  This process involves the parent/carer putting the claim on the ASUS website and arranging for the device to be ready for collection the next business day after the claim has been made (a separate claim document will be supplied) and tracking the repair on the portal.  The typical turn around time for a repair is 5-7 working days.

*please note you must be home for the collection and return, because they may charge you to come back if you are not home*

There will be a document in the box with step by step instructions on how to make your claim.

Full details on how to join the scheme, sign up for the scheme and manage contributions are available through the Genie parent portal.

Empowering students through technology

bring your own device

Thank you for your interest in our Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) scheme.

If you choose not to purchase a device through the recommended school scheme with Albion, you may instead purchase a Chromebook independently. Please carefully read the guidance below.

Approved Device Model

The required device model is:
ASUS Chromebook CZ1104FM4A-NS0077 (11.6”)

To ensure compatibility with school systems, it is essential that this exact model is purchased.

Important Considerations

- Devices purchased independently are the full responsibility of the parent/carer.
- The school cannot provide insurance, repairs, replacements, or loan devices.
- In the event of damage, loss, or theft, the school is unable to offer support.

Chrome Management Licence

A Chrome Management licence is required for all student devices.

- Cost: £35.00 (one-off payment)
- Payment will be made via the school MIS system during the summer term.
- The school IT team will install the licence in September to ensure the device works with school software and security systems.

Protecting Your Child’s Device

As this is a personal device:

- It is not covered under school insurance.
- Parents/carers are responsible for arranging appropriate insurance.
- Consider adding gadget insurance via home insurance or bank accounts.
- We recommend purchasing a protective laptop sleeve.
- Students should store devices securely, particularly during break and lunchtime.

Recommendation

While purchasing independently is an option, the school strongly recommends the official scheme as it provides additional support, warranty, and peace of mind.
